Top 10 most popular print motifs

Fashion is constantly changing – new motifs appear from day to day, but just as often there is a return to old trends. However, there are patterns that never go out of style and are timeless. In the article below, we present a ranking of the 10 most popular decoration motifs that we have created at Print Union. We hope this list will be helpful to you and inspire you to create your own unique designs.

1. Company logo

Decorations featuring company logos definitely dominate among our projects. Every brand wants to stand out in the market, and a print or embroidery on company clothing is one of the best forms of advertising. Logos placed most often around the chest area immediately catch the eye. Choosing an embroidered logo further enhances the company’s prestigious image.

2. Music merch

Most artists and music bands have their own merch for fans: hats, t-shirts, or patches (especially popular in rock and metal music circles). These designs mainly include band or artist names in characteristic fonts, as well as album covers or symbolic graphics related to their work. Merch is often sold quickly and in large quantities, so screen printing is the best printing technique here.

3. Animals

It is impossible to imagine a ranking of motifs without animals! This pattern is so universal that it reigns in almost every artistic environment – from paintings, through tattoos, to clothing decorations. Cute cats and dogs, majestic tigers and wolves, entire animal silhouettes, as well as patterns imitating their fur, such as spots or stripes, are extremely popular. Exotic animal motifs are also gladly chosen, such as snakes, kangaroos, big cats, or parrots. Techniques like DTF and screen printing work perfectly for creating such decorations.

4. Food

The food motif remains consistently popular. Such designs are used not only by restaurants! Graphics depicting popular dishes like spaghetti, burgers, sushi, or ramen, as well as various vegetables and fruits, are often printed. Increasingly, inspired by Asian fashion, food is depicted in a humorous way, e.g., by adding comic eyes and hands to dishes.

5. Flowers

Flowers have always fascinated people with their beauty and subtlety, inspiring artists of all eras – poets, painters, tattoo artists. Nowadays, floral patterns are often embroidered or printed on clothing. Delicate, subtle flowers look great both on the chest area and in full glory – for example, covering the entire back.

6. Quotes

Quotes, especially motivational ones, are very popular on workout clothing, influencer merch, or as a way to capture well-known internet memes.

7. Abstraction and geometry

Abstract and geometric patterns are gaining more and more fans. Simple, delicate shapes work perfectly as subtle prints on the chest, while colorful compositions look best on larger areas – for example, on the back.

8. Pop culture

Superheroes, anime and manga, famous musicians, actors, or cartoon characters – this is only the beginning of an endless list of pop culture motifs. Interestingly, designs inspired by cartoons are increasingly chosen not only by children but also by adults. The popularity of East Asian pop culture is also growing – especially thanks to K-pop, anime, and manga – and they appear more and more often in our projects.

9. The 90s

90s fashion is making a comeback! More and more people choose motifs styled after that decade: faded effects, kitsch, writings inspired by old TV series and cartoons, or neon accents – this is only a small snippet of characteristic designs, and their popularity continues to grow.

10. Seasonal themes

Upcoming holidays, special events, conventions, or sports competitions always bring about related themes. For example – just before Valentine’s Day, interest in romantic designs increases, while before summer vacations, palms, beaches, and motifs associated with summer relaxation dominate.

Fashion is changeable, but there are motifs that never fade, like those listed above. When creating a t-shirt print design, the only limit is imagination – we can draw inspiration in heaps from the world around us! Besides, every occasion is a good reason to create an original decoration on a t-shirt, regardless of the theme!
